Creative Career Spotlight: Costume in Film and TV with Annaleese Cochrane

Welcome back! This week we get to hear what it’s like to work for one of the biggest production studios in the world, and how it would be so good if ruminating wasn’t a thing.

Annaleese is a gem. She has done extremely well under pressure and become a sparkling, determined, multi-talented creative professional. As well as an excellent brunch companion. She has a lot of practical tips for anyone considering making a big move to further their career, and her observations on working in the film industry are excellent. Go find her on Instagram and tell her what a kick-ass human she is!

We recorded this episode last year, so the Charmed reboot has already aired! Have you seen it? Did you like it?

Keep well,

-Paula

EPISODE NOTES:

Things We Mentioned

.....

The union Annaleese mentions is IATSE Local 891

Something that we discussed was very important to do before you came over is to know the job you want to do before you book your flight, do your research and find out the skills you need for the role, and out what union you want to be part of. Do all of this BEFORE you arrive.

.....

Ruminating about stuff at work and how not to: look, there is no short answer or quick fix to this one. In order to stop ourselves ruminating, we kinda need to rewire our brains to a certain extent.

You can read a bit about rumination and tips on stopping in this article which sounds a lot like the info I looked up on the APA website. This one is a little more in-depth and also quite good.

As a ruminator myself, this is something which I’ve given a lot of thought to (a bad joke, yes. But it still had to be made).

Very recently, I finally downloaded the Headpsace app. I’ve tried meditation before and was a bit meh about it, but I do think that in the three weeks I’ve been using it, it has helped. The $91.99 annual payment (which isn’t an insignificant amount for me) came out of my account this morning, and it’s worth it for me. This isn’t an ad, btw. I just do find the app has been quite helpful in training me to note things and manage my thoughts in a healthier way. (Though if anyone out there has the power to get Headspace to sponsor an ep, do it!)
