The 49th Meal

AN Alaskan Food PODCAST

We take a journey across that state from the islands of the southeast up to the very tip of the state the most northern point in the United States to learn about the men and women that make different food and beverage products here. Join us to hear about what it takes to make great food and drinks in the last frontier we call home.

Hello, everyone, I’m Mitchel Howell the host and creator of the 49th Meal podcast. I have been in the kitchen life for about 10 years. I have had the opportunity to cook all over the US and in 2015 got my first chance to cook in Alaska. I instantly fell in love with the fresh air, mountains, and who could forget that beauty we call the ocean.

In 2017 I and my family got the chance to move to Alaska and we took it. Ending up in Sitka, Alaska I dove headfirst into the kitchen life and everything it had to offer. Got to work with some amazing chefs and there was just something about going to the docks to pick up fresh seafood instead of having to order it from some nameless warehouse.

At the end of 2019, I moved to Palmer Alaska and was working on the North Slopes of Alaska in the oilfields as a chef. It was here when I was away from my family for weeks at a time that I really got into listening to podcasts and after not finding one I really wanted to listen to I decided to make my own podcast. What would I make a podcast about? Well, food duh. So I got the idea I wanted to share my love of everything Alaskan food and beverage related to the world and in November of 2019, I got my first microphone from a pawn shop and been recording ever since.

So please sit back and join me as we travel all over the state of Alaska and hear from the amazing men and women who call this home and the amazing food and beverages they make in the Last Frontier.
