Podcasts podcasts podcasts, because that's what we do. This week Liz looks into a disease some doctor's don't believe in with Patient Zero, Nick goes behind the scenes with famous musicians with The Road Taken and Zane looks into whether the CIA interfered with an 80s megahit power ballad with Wind of Change. Then it's review time. Will the Castologists come to blows this week? Stay tuned to find out!
Liz Recommends - Patient Zero
https://www.patientzeropodcast.com/
New Hampshire Public Radio takes a look at what happens when society confronts the limits of scientific knowledge, through one of the most enigmatic diseases of the 21st Century: Lyme disease.
Patient Zero is a multipart podcast series from NHPR. The project – in development for more than a year - continues the tradition of in-depth, audio-rich podcast storytelling from NHPR, including such prior productions as Outside/In, Civics 101, Bear Brook and Supervision.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate there are more than 300,000 new cases of Lyme disease a year: more new cases than measles, acute hepatitis, and mumps. That growth also makes Lyme disease more common than whooping cough, tuberculosis, and spotted fever. In New Hampshire, the prevalence of Lyme disease infections led the state Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to create a statewide prevention plan, to give guidance on how best to reduce the risk of tick-borne disease.
Patient Zero host Taylor Quimby knows what it’s like to experience the disease. In the summer of 2017, Quimby had his own bout with Lyme disease, an experience that sent him searching for answers as he turned from reporter to disease detective.

Nick Recommends - The Road Taken with CT and Baio
Vampire Weekend’s Chris Tomson and Chris Baio take an honest look at the life of a touring musician through conversations with their peers, idols, and rivals. The truth lies somewhere between the penthouse suite and a sleeping bag on the floor, between a private jet and a 2004 Honda Odyssey, between a sold-out Madison Square Garden and 10 paid attendees at Rubber Gloves in Denton, Texas.
For both: Take a pick!

Zane Recommends - Wind of Change

Zane isn't usually about spies, but today, he has brought a spy podcast!
It’s 1990. The Berlin Wall has just come down. The Soviet Union is on the verge of collapse. A heavy metal band from West Germany, the Scorpions, releases a power ballad, “Wind of Change.” The song becomes the soundtrack to the peaceful revolution sweeping Europe — and one of the biggest rock singles ever. According to some fans, it’s the song that ended the Cold War.
Decades later, New Yorker writer Patrick Radden Keefe hears a rumor from a source: the Scorpions didn’t actually write “Wind of Change.” The CIA did.
This is Patrick’s journey to find the truth. Among former operatives and leather-clad rockers, from Moscow to Kiev to a GI Joe convention in Ohio, it’s a story about spies doing the unthinkable, about propaganda hidden in pop music, and a maze of government secrets. “Wind of Change.” An offbeat eight part investigation.
